Topping Letters

For cookie type icing, mix icing according to the recipe.  Divide into as many cups as you want to have colors, and mix your colors.  The easiest way for small hands to make letters in icing is the ________________ squeeze bottles.  Fill the bottle at least 1/3 full, and squeeze out lines in the shape of the letter.  It helps to have a printed out picture of the desired letter in front of you.  You can decorate a cookie or cupcake this way, or even a piece of bread.
In a more every day setting, try using the mustard or ketchup bottle to make letters on your hamburger.  Grape jam comes in a squeeze bottle that can write letters on toast.  Try to make letters that resemble printed letters, not script.  If the squeeze bottle is too large for small hands to handle, let the child “direct” your making a letter.  “Now make a line here that goes like this” “and then add a round piece here.”
